Ethical Toy Program – the leading responsible sourcing program for the global toy industry – has developed an auditor assessment tool to enable toy factories to evaluate, and feedback on, the performance of on-site auditors. This online assessment tool is the first of its kind for factories undergoing social compliance audits.

The IETP Social Impact Assessment is designed to assess a manufacturing site, vendor, agent or licensee’s social impact by measuring the effectiveness of their management systems in place for labor standards in their businesses and in their supply chains. Social impact is the effect an organization has on people and communities as a result of its actions, activities, projects, programs or policies.

The Ethical Toy Program is adding a new Auditor Assessment Functionality to the Connect Platform. This new, online feedback tool enables toy factories to evaluate, and feedback on, the performance of on-site auditors.

Program such as Ethical Toy Program Family Friendly Spaces (FFS) enable parents and caregivers to provide the best start in life for their children; they pay off in healthier, better-educated children, a better-equipped workforce and more sustainable growth.

We are delighted to announce that this summer we are operating more FFS than ever before at 18 factories which will accommodate 691 children, allowing 788 parents to be reunited with their children for the summer.

International legislation and global initiatives on Modern Day Slavery require toy brands and retailers to make efforts to ensure their supply chains are free from all forms of Modern Day Slavery, including forced labor, slavery, and human trafficking.

During the seminar, we shared information on the business environment, culture and common challenges in Vietnam, alongside insights on labor practices, overtime, and environmental health and safety requirements in Vietnam.

Designed in an informative, yet entertaining comic book style, the booklet is intended as a resource which factory workers can read in their leisure time. The booklet also serves as a useful resource for factory managers to help them better understand, communicate, and motivate migrant workers, helping to accelerate their adjustment to workplace culture.

This year, marks the 6th year since the launch of the Family-Friendly Spaces (FFS) program. This program is a social initiative that has been tailor-made for the manufacturing industry with the goal of providing child care services to left-behind children and the children of migrant workers, as well as to strengthen the parent-child bond for migrant workers during the summer holidays.

The Ethical Toy Program’s new strategic collaboration with the U.S.-based Toy Association is the first in a series of new partnerships that will see the Ethical Toy Program work with other national toy associations around the world to further develop, scale, and promote responsible sourcing collaborations that will result in additional support for small- and medium-sized (SME) toy companies.

Taking Progress Visits (PVs) as an example. Post-certification follow-up is an essential element of the IETP certification, at the same time, it is also important for brands, retailers, and licensors to know supplier factories are making efforts to improve labour conditions.

During the kick-off event, the President & CEO of the ICTI Ethical Toy Program, Ms. Carmel Giblin, shared the objectives of the pilot, encouraged participants to share feedback with us anytime during the pilot and to join us to evaluate the program once it is completed. Representatives from Micro Benefits introduced their company, the functions of the “Company IQ” platform as well as its implementation process with demonstration.

The platform collects and surfaces data on factory-level working conditions through evidentiary documentation, interactive conferencing and multi-stage verification. Both Workers and Managers will be involved in the data inputs, ensuring that we hear directly from Workers as part of our assurance process. Supporting the platform design process has been the IETP Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) which members include senior representatives from major brands and retailers, toy manufacturers and business associations.
